Rather than practice painting portraits of people I know and run the risk of their being disappointed by the poor results of my first-time skills, I thought I’d practice on myself. Here are some stabs based on old elementary-school portraits, all of which disappoint me! Click to enlarge.
First grade. Sorta looks like me.
Second grade. Looks like me.
Also second grade. Was sick that day at school, which explains why my collar is buttoned wrong.
Third grade. Looks nothing like me. I do like the purple streaks in the hair,
It’s good to keep sketching fast, whenever I get a glimpse of inspiration, to just draw rapidamente, faster than I can think of what’s wrong. It’s good to act despite my fears, to just do without attaching judgments.
Keep getting invites to a live-model drawing session, but keep declining because I’m afraid I can’t draw people. Thought it’d give it a try tonight based on some gossip-mag photos. Click on images for a larger view.
